Prof. Dato’ Azizi is experienced in treating general illnesses in children and babies (except those born prematurely). Additionally, he is a pioneering specialist in
paediatric asthma and respiratory illnesses in this country. He sees local and international patients for asthma, chronic and persistent coughs,
pneumonia, bronchitis and difficult and complex respiratory diseases of various types.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES and ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Prof. Dato’ Azizi trained in paediatrics in early 1980’s at UKM and in the UK. He subspecialised in paediatric respiratory medicine and trained in London, Birmingham,
North Carolina (USA) and Newcastle (NSW, Australia) under prominent paediatric respiratory specialists.

His most treasured accomplishment was his instrumental role in establishing Paediatric Respiratory Medicine as a Paediatric subspecialty in Malaysia. He initiated
structured training in this subspecialty for paediatricians. A consequent of this is the establishment of paediatric respiratory service centres in the country to
serve children with difficult respiratory problems. He chaired the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committees for Childhood Pneumonia and Respiratory Infections
and the Management of Childhood Asthma for many years. He served as the first chairman of the subcommittee for Credentialing of Paediatric Respiratory Physicians.

He is also a pioneering Clinical Epidemiologist in Malaysia, an established researcher and teacher. He has published more than 60 research papers and presented many
more in scientific conferences. He is currently very active in research in safety and quality in healthcare.

He was formerly a Professor at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia where he also served as the Head of the Department of Paediatrics and a Deputy Dean. He had
served as Adjunct Professor of Paediatrics at the Faculties of Medicine and of UiTM and UTAR.
