- Dr Michael Lim graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1984 and went on to complete his Master of Medicine in Singapore and his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom (UK). He was in the pioneer group of doctors who formed the cardiac department in the National University Hospital when it was first established in 1989. He was the first cardiologist in Singapore to be sent for a fellowship in interventional radiology/cardiology in the USA.
- A pioneer in carotid artery stenting and having performed Asia’s first in 1995, Dr Lim also devotes time to research. Dr Lim has more than 70 publications in local, regional and international journals and conferences. He has written numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
- Dr Lim has published one of the first papers in Asia demonstrating highly accurate diagnosis using CT imaging of the heart arteries in the journal Clinical Radiology, which earned him a certificate for being the author of one of the Top 10 cited papers published in Clinical Radiology, a prestigious international publication of the Royal College of Radiologists of the United Kingdom.
- Dr Lim also published the world’s first paper, featured in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), on the use of CT guided angioplasty and stenting, showing that complex disease of the heart arteries was stented safely without major complications.
- Dr Lim’s current key appointments include being the Medical Director of Singapore Heart, Stroke & Cancer Centre and a professor in Fudan University. He is also the founding editor of Heart Asia, a journal of the prestigious British Medical Journal (BMJ) Publishing Group. He has been appointed Emeritus President of the Asia Pacific Heart Association and is currently the vice-president of both the World Chinese Doctors Association and the World Federation of Chinese Cardiovascular Physicians.
