Background
- Dr Liew Woei Kang is a paediatrician practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
- He subspecialises in allergy, immunology and rheumatology.
- He manages conditions such as allergy disorders (eg. eczema), allergic rhinitis, asthma, food and drug allergies, as well as immunological disorders (eg. primary immunodeficiencies and evaluation of recurrent infections) and rheumatological disorders like Kawasaki disease, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and intra-articular joint injections.
- Prior to starting private practice, Dr Liew was a consultant paediatrician in the Allergy Service and Rheumatology & Immunology Service, Department of Paediatrics, at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
- He is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
- Dr Liew was an adjunct assistant professor in Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He continues to be a visiting consultant to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
- Dr Liew was awarded the Health Manpower Development Programme Fellowship from the Ministry of Health and underwent advanced training in paediatric allergy and immunology at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia, in 2007.
- He was awarded several research grants from the National Medical Research Council, SingHealth Foundation and KKH Research Centre to pursue clinical research in paediatric anaphylaxis, drug allergy, primary immunodeficiencies and Kawasaki disease.
- Dr Liew is passionate about medical education and has won SingHealth’s Outstanding Young Teacher’s Award in 2007 and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine’s Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2010.
- He was also awarded the Excellent Service award in 2007 and Service with a Heart Award in 2010.
- He continues to play an active in his speciality and is the current president of the College of Paediatrics and Child Health Singapore at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
- He is also the workgroup chair for Registry and Research for the Asia Pacific Society for Primary Immunodeficiency, and the immediate past president of the Asthma & Allergy Association in Singapore.
