- Dr Francisco Salcido-Ochoa graduated with honours from the Faculty of Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1998. He went to the United Kingdom to pursue his postgraduate research studies at the Imperial College London, Department of Immunology, under the mentorship of Prof Sir Robert Lechler. He was awarded a distinction for his Master of Science (Immunology) in 1999 and granted a straight-pass on his PhD thesis, ‘Transplantation Tolerance and Immunoregulation’ in 2005. During his PhD studies, he made a significant contribution to the description of a novel pathway in immunology.
- Subsequently, Dr Francisco underwent further medical training at the Royal London Hospital and Barts Hospital, and obtained his Member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 2007. He relocated to Singapore in 2008 and continued his specialist training in nephrology at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). He worked as an associate consultant until 2013. From 2013 to 2017, he worked in SGH as a consultant nephrologist with subspecialty in renal transplantation.
- During his service in SGH, Dr Francisco successfully obtained a few institutional research grants and participated in numerous research projects related to the immune mechanisms underlying kidney transplant rejection and kidney dialysis, as well as the discovery of novel biomarkers. He has had extensive collaborations with several research groups in Singapore, including the Department of Pathology in SGH, the SingHealth Translational Immunology and Inflammation Centre, the Singapore Immunology Network and the Institute for Molecular and Cellular Biology.
- Dr Francisco has several international publications and has been invited for several oral presentations in different countries including the UK, Mexico, Switzerland, Malaysia, Spain and Singapore. Dr Francisco has vast teaching experience and has taught on immunology-related topics, renal transplantation, renal histopathology and evidence-based medicine. He was also an active moderator of research meetings and guided juniors in the study of their projects.
