Background
- Dr Leon Foo is an orthopaedic surgeon practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
- His clinical expertise includes the treatment of hip, knee and shoulder problems, sports injuries, arthritis, and bone and soft tissue tumours.
- As the lead surgical member in the oncology team, Dr Foo is experienced in tumour tissue removal and subsequent reconstructive surgery using tissue grafts or artificial implants. His surgical expertise encompasses minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, computer-assisted surgery and robotic surgery.
- Dr Foo was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Health to undergo dual subspecialty training in orthopaedic oncology (bone and soft tissue tumours) and joint reconstruction and replacement at the University Hospital of Munster in Germany. Thereafter, he undertook a clinical attachment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA.
- Dr Foo was formerly a consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital. He was also concurrently appointed as a visiting consultant to the National Cancer Centre, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
- Apart from clinical work, Dr Foo was appointed as an adjunct assistant professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a clinical tutor at the Duke-NUS Medical School. He is also an advanced trauma life support instructor and has been actively involved as a faculty physician for both the orthopaedic surgery and family medicine residency programmes. He regularly teaches at both local and international conferences.
- Dr Foo has published several papers in international peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals. In recognition of his expertise and research contribution, he has been an expert reviewer for medical journals indexed in the PubMed journal list, such as the Journal of Arthroplasty, Singapore Medical Journal and Annals of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
