  • Dr Chan Wing Kwong was the head of the refractive surgery service at the Singapore National Eye Centre until 2008, and is currently a visiting senior consultant of the Singapore National Eye Centre and clinical senior lecturer in the department of ophthalmology at the National University of Singapore.
  • He was awarded a HMDP scholarship to undergo a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery in 1994/95 at UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute, subspecialising in laser vision correction and corneal surgery.
  • He has published 26 scientific papers and 6 book chapters on laser vision correction, corneal diseases, contact lenses and cataracts, and participated in 15 local and international clinical trials of refractive and corneal surgery techniques as principal investigator, co-investigator and medical monitor since 1992.
  • Dr Chan is recognised locally and internally as a teacher and opinion leader in the field of laser vision correction, and has trained many surgeons in LASIK surgery from Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region. He also gives lectures and conducts teaching courses in many local, regional and international meetings such as at the annual meetings of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons.
  • In 2006, he was awarded the Minister of Health Award for Outstanding Performance in Public Health. He is recipient of the Muthusamy Medal of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Gold Medal for the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) degree of the National University of Singapore in 1991, the Distinguished Service Award of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology in 1999, and the Certified Educator Award of the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgery in 2002.
  • He was formerly the chairman of the Contact Lens Practitioners Board, chairman of the National Committee on Ophthalmology, and is currently a member of the Complaints Panel of the Singapore Medical Council. He is also an honorary visiting consultant of the Xiamen Eye Centre, China.
  • He is a member of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology, the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.
